The Angkor Dance Troupe is excited to celebrate its 35th anniversary on November 1st
November 1st marked Angkor Dance Troupe’s (ADT) 35th Anniversary. ADT has become a rich tapestry of Lowell’s past, present, and future. Formed by a small group of Cambodian refugees seeking to keep their culture alive, from this humble beginning to reaching the highest honor of performing at the White House, ADT has grown and expanded. Though its members have traveled far and wide, ADT stayed rooted in Lowell, its birthplace. ADT remains committed to fulfilling its mission to preserving Cambodian performing arts through over 4,000 youth who learned dance with the Troupe.
Mission: Connecting communities through the preservation, education, and innovation of Cambodian performing arts.
Vision: We envision Lowell, Massachusetts to be the resource in the Northeast for Cambodian performing arts, culture, and history, with the Angkor Dance Troupe at its core. The ADT provides instruction, preserves Cambodian history, and spreads knowledge through its teaching of traditional Cambodian dance, music, history, and the Khmer language. It provides access and connection to Cambodian culture through a variety of classes. Through these classes and the high-quality performances by its dancers, ADT maintains the integrity of Cambodian performing arts and traditions while adapting to societal changes, and developing the next generation of dancers, teachers, mentors, and leaders.
Core Values: Angkor Dance Troupe exists to sustain the legacy of Cambodian culture for our future generations -- we value artistic and organizational integrity, education, intergenerational exchange, mentorship and development, the maintaining of high-quality performances, and innovation of new ideas to keep future generations interested in carrying on the legacy. By doing all of this, we can hold space for the contemporary diaspora* to explore and express their roots and their experience across cultures.
There are many ways that individuals can make a difference at the Angkor Dance Troupe (ADT). Whether you choose to participate in supporting our specific program or contribute to the celebration of the 35th Anniversary in November, your generosity helps to strengthen our mission and educational programs to the Lowell community each year.
